May 25, 2026:
So I finally returned from my camping trip, and it was pretty... mediocre. I'm most certainly going to sound like a Debby downer today, but the trip was really just that dreadful.
I ended up going to Vashon Island with my mother and a friend of her's... everything in my gut told me to decline, but am I truly Dot if I'm not disregarding what said gut tells me? No, no I am not. Anywho.
It was terrible. Despite bringing my warmest clothes, I was left freezing regardless. I deal with heart and lung problems primarily, so being out in the middle of nowhere with little accommodations was less than pleasant. I didn't even have pain medication to fall back on, so I was truly just thugging out the entire trip.
The nights were cold as fuck, but the days were the total opposite, being ridiculously hot. Now if I had to pick one, I would go with the heat, but I'd have preferred a nice middleground. Dinner the first night wasn't great, so I just settled for starvation. But thankfully my mom was willing to hear me out later on and provided food options that were a lot more tolerable for me.
I spent a lot of my time during the trip sleeping and just hiding away. I quickly realized that I did not, in fact, want to be there. There was plenty more to the trip, but I'm already cringing just seeing how whiney this all sounds so let's just end this all here 🙂↕️on a positive note: I saw orcas in the wild! While I was taking the ferry back to Seattle, I saw three of them! They surfaced a couple of times and they were incredibly beautiful! One thing I love about the PNW is that they house some of my favorite sea animals (orcas being one of them). Hopefully I can spot some harbor seals later on.
